Carabello Coffee
Organic Peru Las Paltas
On the border between Namballe in Cajamarca and Ecuador lies the Las Paltas farm. This area is known as “Selva Alta” or high jungle. Here the climate is tropical where vegetation thickens and agriculture is diverse. In particular, coffee and sugar cane are widely cultivated.
Coffee producer Fermin Huaman is one of the top producers in the area and has cultivated coffee all his life. His farm is 3.5 hectares and is planted with coffee as well as subsistence crops. The farm’s name, Las Paltas, comes from the prolific amount of avocado trees that grow on the farm. The coffee has strategically been planted among the shade of the Albizia and Pacay trees.
Coffee production and quality from Las Paltas increases year over year. Fermin’s goal is to become both nationally and internationally recognized for his excellent quality coffee. In addition, Las Paltas has become a farm with a balanced ecosystem and Fermin works toward sustainably producing coffee in order to preserve that balance for the future.
