Carabello Coffee
La Bendición Honey
This Maracaturra was grown in the Dipilto-Jalapa mountain range in northeast Nicaragua on the farm La Bendición. The name of the farm means “the blessing” and belongs to our dear friend and coffee producer Luis Alberto Balladarez. La Bendición has been in Luis’s family for four generations and he is training up and passing the torch to his children as the fifth generation of coffee farmers.
La Bendición spans 252 acres of land and about half of that is dedicated to cultivating coffee. This land is divided into 8 parcels, each with their own unique varietals planted on them. Despite the diversity of coffees on La Bendición, the pacamara and maracaturra lots are crowd favorites. This one is a Maracaturra—a hybrid of the maragogipe and caturra varietals. It is complex, large in size, and flourishes in the Nicaraguan climate. Once harvested, the coffee is sent to be processed at Beneficio Las Segovias. Luis uses a wide range of processes, but this one is a honey process.
